Meydan City is a residential district in Dubai, located close to the Meydan Racecourse, and comes from the Arabic language for “meeting place”. The district consists of a mix of low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise buildings with both villas, apartments and offices with retail space in the area, with all buildings and interiors in the area, designed in an oriental style.
The total area of the district is 40 million sq. ft. and is a convenient place to live and work. Residential buildings and office buildings are located side by side with shops, promenades, water canals, pedestrian paths and tree alleys.
Meydan was initially developed from a small residential area located in the heart of Nad Al Sheba into the real metropolis that it is today. The district hosts world-renowned events every year (the horse racing festival and football championships) so Meydan City can compete with some of the other most important districts of Dubai in terms of popularity. The area is being actively developed, with lots of unfinished projects with handover dates in the near future, but many that are now completed.
Meydan City, also known as Meydan, has a very advantageous location as the area is very close to many of the major road networks in the city. The area is near Dubai Al Ain Road and Ras Al Khor Road which can both take you straight out of the city in a short space of time.
The residential area of Meydan City is adjacent to the renowned world-class Meydan racetrack, built with the latest technology and a capacity of 60,000 spectators.
Additionally, there are more than ten restaurants and hotels on-site, as well as a museum, a shrine gallery for Godolphin, and the offices of the Dubai Equestrian Club. Local authorities are constantly developing the infrastructure and building new roads that connect different parts of the area to the rest of Dubai, and the RTA Dubai has recently opened three new bridges in the area. With their help, residents and guests of Meydan will be able to access the racecourse quickly and easily. Another private bridge meant for direct access for VIP guests to the Meydan Racetrack was also recently opened.
The main public transport in the area are buses, which run through several metro stations when they get closer to the city. The nearest metro station is 15 minutes’ away which is located in Business Bay, however the most popular type of transport is still a taxi. The government plans to build a tram line that will connect Meydan with the racetrack in the near future, which will make it much easier for residents to travel from the area.
Compared with other areas of the emirate, Meydan has plenty of parking availability. The vast majority of residential complexes have their own parking areas and the same goes for the private low-rise buildings. Most of the villas have a large private garage that provides a space for 2-3 vehicles.
There are many different supermarkets in the area that cater to the needs of local residents. One is the Burj View Towers, which is a 15 minutes’ drive from the Millennium Estates and Meydan Gated Community neighbourhoods. Another popular supermarket chain is Spinneys, which is located on Meydan Road.
Another major grocery outlet in the area is the Lulu Express hypermarket, where one can buy all the necessary products at a more competitive rate than most other supermarkets. The largest shopping center within close proximity to Meydan City is Bay Avenue, which is located in Business Bay and houses many shops, restaurants, cafes and an open-air market.
The upcoming Meydan One Mall will feature many shopping and entertainment venues, with more than 550 stores, 200 F&B outlets, and also a 21-screen cinema, dancing fountains, crystal lagoons and a retractable skylight. The mall is currently still under construction.
It’s no secret that Dubai is a place of many cultures that live side by side, which means there are many churches and mosques for different religions to meet the needs of every resident in Meydan City. The district hosts many small mosques, as well as large ones, such as Nad Al Sheba Great Mosque and Masjid E Ibad Ur Rehman. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Al Safa is open for Christians.
Meydan City doesn’t have many schools in the area at the moment. However, there are still several options in the immediate vicinity:
All of the above educational institutions are about 10 minutes’ drive from Meydan City.
As the district is constantly developing, hospitals and pharmacies are not yet open, however the world-renowned Medicare and Emirates Hospital are the two closest hospitals to Meydan City, both of which are about a 15 minute drive away.
Meydan City is home to many restaurants of various global cuisines. One of the most popular sports bars in Meydan City (and in the whole Dubai as well) is Qube.
