The district was developed by Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority. Construction of the area began in 2004, and by 2016, more than 2,000 companies had moved in. DSO is roughly divided up into four parts: industrial, commercial, educational, and residential. The neighbourhood is home to the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus, the Rochester Institute of Technology – Dubai, and the Dubai Digital Park.
