What to do in Dubai in June 2021

Dubai is one of the most sought-after destinations worldwide among tourists in summer thanks to cheaper flights, low season discounts and a wide range of entertainment options both inside and outside. June 2021 in the emirate is expected to be relatively hot with the temperature ranging 42C. Amid its successful handling of the pandemic and rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, Dubai is expected to receive a continuously high flow of visitors in the upcoming months. In order to keep the situation under control, the Health Sector announced on May 25, 2021 that from June 6 all public events and exhibitions are restricted to COVID-vaccinated attendees only. E-vaccination cards or the Al Hosn app showing that you are vaccinated are a must in order to attend live entertainment, concerts, weddings, bars and clubs, as well as social and institutional events.

Art Exhibitions

The World of Banksy

The largest Banksy exhibition in the world landed for the first time in the UAE. It features 120 recreated pieces by the internationally-renowned street artist in a gallery of over 10,000 sqft. Some of his most famous artworks include Girl with a Balloon in London, Flower Thrower in Beit Sahour and Mobile Lovers in Bristol. This event gives art lovers a unique opportunity to look deeper into the thought-provoking work of Banksy. Active since the mid-1990s, his real name and identity remain a mystery even to this day. The artist is known for his social and political murals on bridges, streets and walls all over the world.

When: ongoing until June 30.

Being Van Gogh

The fully immersive exhibition is based on over 2,000 letters exchanged between Van Gogh and his younger brother Theo. More than 300 of the works, including sketches and paintings by the iconic artist are projected onto a massive 360-degree multimedia play. The video itself is 45 minutes long and also features an actor performing live as Van Gogh in the show. Visitors of the state-of-the-art show can redeem the cost of their adult ticket at several nearby F&B outlets. Such establishments include Trattoria, Perry & Blackwelder’s, The Noodle House, Anar, Belgian Beer Café, Ushna and Publique.

Music Shows and Festivals

Symphonic Middle East

SAMIT Event Group in partnership with the European Foundation for Support of Culture and Dubai Opera present the first edition of the classical music festival.  The concerts will feature first prize winners of the international Queen Elisabeth Competition alongside internationally-recognized musicians. The artists will be accompanied by the prestigious Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, led by the world-famous conductor Sergey Smbatyan. Fans of classical music and opera will be glad to know that the concerts will feature one of the world’s finest tenors Joseph Calleja, the exceptional violinist Ji Young Lim and the youngest prize-winner of the Bonn International Beethoven Competition, Remi Geniet. The world-class musicians will treat the audience with the masterpieces of Felix Mendelssohn and modern composer Alexey Shor.

Queen Experience

To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of We are the Champions, Dubai welcomes a spectacular Queen tribute this June. The all-action production has been proclaimed as the best concert show ever inspired by the band. It will deliver two hours of royal entertainment and will consist of four parts with non-stop Queen hits. Spectators will be transported through time with a range of the most popular songs performed, such as Bohemian Rapsody, We Will Rock You, Another One Bites the Dust and many others. This must-visit show recreates the excitement of the legendary stadium spectaculars with the band’s remarkable attention to detail.

When: 24 June, 8 pm and 25 June, 2 pm.

Family-Friendly Events

Peter Pan

Following a sold-out production of Beauty and the Beast in 2019, the award-winning UAE studio Turning Pointe Youth Ballet will present Peter Pan this year. This performance is perfect for the whole family and especially children as they watch the magical fairy tale come to life on stage. The one-hour long show is created by Artistic Director Abigail Rideout, with original music and stage dancing. Around 85 ballet dancers, aged 6 to 18, will take part in the Peter Pan ballet. After the performance, the audience will have an opportunity to meet and take pictures with the cast.

When: June 18, 1:30 and 5 pm.

Fabrizio Fiorani at BOCA

There is some exciting news for gourmands, as one of the world’s most famous patissiers, Fabrizio Fiorani, is coming to Dubai for the first time to present mouthwatering deserts. Crowned Asia’s Best Pastry Chef in 2019, currently he serves up sweet masterpieces at The Bulgari Osaka and The Bulgari Tokio. Fiorani will be joined one of the most renowned bartenders in the cocktail world – Patrick Pistolesi. A regular and vegetarian menu of six dishes will be prepared by the Head Chef of BOCA – Matthijs Stinnissen.

Marilyn Monroe-Themed Dinner Cruise

If you are in love with the era of 1950s Hollywood then this one-of-a kind premium event, inspired by the iconic pin-up, is for you. The private yacht will be stylized as a period movie set, complete with a party-starting jazz band. Guests will be able to envision black and white Hollywood in all its enchanting beauty. GETEX Spring

Arab Health

Arab Health is the largest medical exhibition and conference across the MENA region. It attracts about 90,000 professionals and 4,000 exhibitors, as distributors are seeking to source new suppliers and products. Showcasing the latest medical technologies and innovative solutions, Arab Health has been recognized as one of the key events in the healthcare industry. Besides a live exhibition which lasts for four days, there is also a digital platform available with further possibilities for networking and promotion. This online feature will run for two months, from May 23 to July 22.

To attract more visitors, major amusement parks, hotels and F&B venues launch a number of special offers in summer. It can include promotions for ladies only, discounts when purchasing tickets online, free entrance for kids, as well as redeemable offers on food and drinks.

Laguna Waterpark

For the third anniversary, Laguna Waterpark launched a special offer valid on weekdays. Throughout June, visitors can buy tickets online for the starting price of AED 120, USD 33 with a full access to all rides, play areas and a beach. Children under 2 years can enter for free. Furthermore, MOTIONGATE launched The Coolest Summer promotion; AED 195, USD for full access to indoor zones, rides, shows and unlimited refills during the whole summer.

Both offers are valid for UAE residents only.

IMG Worlds

At the moment, the second largest indoor theme park in the world has a limited time offer of AED 225, USD 62 for a park entry with unlimited rides. IMG Worlds features four zones: Marvel, Lost Valley, Cartoon Network and IMG Boulevard. The high-speed Velociraptor roller coaster in the Lost Valley Dinosaur Adventure Zone has to be one of the highlights of the ultimate amusement destination, reaching 100 kph in 2.5 seconds. Covid-19 Rules

on May 17 2021 Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management made several adjustments for precautionary measures during events and activities on a one-month trial bases.

  • The physical distancing was reduced from 9 to 6 ft. At the same time, face masks still have to be worn at all times in public.
  • Up to 100 people can be present at a wedding, however, everyone has to be vaccinated.
  • Entertainment venues can operate at 70% capacity.
  • Hotels are allowed to increase their maximum capacity to 100%.
  • Brunches can be organized in Dubai restaurants once again.
