The Dubai Metro has transported over 2B passengers

Since its opening, the Dubai Metro has transported over 2B passengers. The famous Dubai Metro, which has become a popular landmark, has been in operation since September 9, 2009. According to statistics from the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), 1.34B passengers were transported via the Red Line, while 673.53M commuters used the Green Line.

Moreover, the Dubai Metro reached a punctuality rate of 99.7%, which surpasses international safety standards and demonstrates its exceptional efficiency. Consisting of the Red Line and the Green Line, the Dubai Metro spans over 89.3 km, connecting 53 stations by 129 trains. Being the flagship project of the RTA and Dubai’s public transport network, it’s the longest driverless metro in the world. Facilities and services in the Dubai Metro are considered to be among the best globally.

As Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai stated, a world-class transport network was created in the emirate thanks to the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who wishes to make Dubai a model for future cities. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the RTA for its high-grade projects which serve the needs of Dubai residents and guests.

In 2009, the Dubai Metro served 6M passengers, in 2010 this number increased to 38M, and in 2021 and 2022 — over 151M and 225M respectively. The growth of the Dubai Metro passenger traffic can be explained by the opening of new stations which were part of the Route 2020, spanning over 15 km and connecting 7 stations, as well as the quick recovery from the pandemic and the city hosting Expo 2020 Dubai. The metro in the emirate plays an important part in the economic growth of Dubai, including tourism and property sectors. Thus, a 12% increase in property prices has been seen for residences that sit close by to stations.
