Great launches to mark Expo 2020 Dubai

There are just over 40 days to go until the start of Expo 2020, where the ‘greatest show on earth’ will open its doors to visitors from 1 October and will run for 182 days until 31 March 2022. This historic event is the first of its kind to take place in the Middle East, Africa and the South Asian region.

Final preparations are now taking place for the start of the event. However, records are already being set in the city of Dubai for Expo 2020. There will be 191 participants and different pavilions from sponsors, organizations and businesses.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion is perhaps one of the most recognizable attractions at Expo 2020 Dubai as it is the second-largest pavilion after India. The huge window-shaped structure juts out of the ground at a steep angle and has an area of almost 140,000 square feet. However, that’s not even the most interesting part – even before the exhibition opened, at the end of 2020, the Saudi Arabian pavilion had already set three Guinness World Records for innovative displays.

The largest LED mirror screen display was registered on 20 December 2020 in Dubai. The screen is located on the facade of the pavilion and has an area of 14,019 square feet. Because of this size, visitors can enjoy viewing amazing life-size images when visiting the pavilion. It is worth noting that inside the pavilion there is another LED screen of 223 feet which will reflect the ecosystems in Saudi Arabia with iconic locations such as the sandy desert of Rub al-Khali, the Red Sea, and the Tabuk region’s mountains being projected onto the mighty screen.

The longest interactive water feature is inside the pavilion and is 105 ft 9 in which features interactive dots that visitors can interact with and influence the images. A similar screen can be found in the ‘Discovery Centre’ part of the pavilion where potential partners and investors can interact with a map of Saudi Arabia, which will include digital data on nature, tourism, arts and culture and more.

One part of the Kingdom’s pavilion is the ‘Vision’ exhibition curated by different renowned Saudi artists. This display will present visitors with an audiovisual representation of Saudi Arabian culture. The interactive floor made of 7,798 LED lights in the exhibition is the largest in the world. The exhibition will also feature a virtual sphere with a diameter of 30 meters that will float above the ground.

In addition to the great event of Expo 2020, the long-awaited opening of the tallest Ferris wheel in the world – Ain Dubai will finally open in Dubai. The 820-foot-tall attraction is located on Bluewaters Island, near Dubai Marina. A gorgeous 360-degree panoramic view from the highest point allows you to see the entire Emirate. Landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab come into view from a completely different perspective.

The wheel will have 48 double-glazed luxury cabins that can carry up to 1,750 passengers at a time and the average duration of each ride is approximately 40 minutes. The Ferris wheel also includes six other VIP capsules designed for special occasions and several capsules specifically for dining purposes. This highly anticipated attraction is scheduled to open in the Q4 of 2021.

This year’s Expo is expected to be a never-before-seen event as this is the first time the Expo has been held in the Arab world. It is also the first Expo to take place since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous broken records are further proof of the uniqueness of the event.
