Dubai’s popularity going strong among tourists

Dubai has reported a noteworthy increase in international overnight visitor numbers for the period from January to March 2024, with a total of 5.18 million tourists, marking an 11% increase compared to the same timeframe during 2023. This information was disclosed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) during the 31st Arabian Travel Market (ATM) event.

Dubai’s outstanding performance has garnered worldwide acclaim, particularly with its consecration as the No.1 global destination for the third consecutive year in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards at the onset of 2024— a first-of-its-kind achievement for any city.

The increment in tourist numbers in the first quarter can be attributed to comprehensive strategies implemented across key sectors of the tourism industry, encompassing sustainability, accessibility, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Additionally, the city’s hosting of significant industry events, such as Arab Health, Gulfood, and the Dubai International Boat Show, as well as the inauguration of new hotels including The Lana by Dorchester Collection (the brand’s first establishment in the Middle East), SIRO One Za’abeel (Dubai’s inaugural fitness hotel), Marriott Marquis Dubai, and Hilton Dubai Creek Hotel & Residences, have played pivotal roles in this growth.

Furthermore, Dubai is enhancing its reputation as a global centre for entertainment with the introduction of new attractions and a comprehensive calendar of business, leisure, and sports events, all of which contribute significantly to attracting international tourists. A recent highlight is the opening of Real Madrid World within Dubai Parks and Resorts, the first theme park to bear the name of the illustrious football club, following a multi-year agreement signed between DET and Real Madrid in October of the previous year.
